Let me stop you for one moment and ask you to close your eyes, now imagine that you are been told to fight or see your entire family suffer while being bombed by the western world and terrorists. You make a split decision on what will be best for you and your family.

You walk for days from a country like Syria hiding from the police and paying money to unscrupulous smugglers. You then make it to Turkey which the western world tells us is a safe space for refugees but you are beaten and looked down on by Turkish authorities.
Turkey is the gateway for the approx. 40,000 refugees that are on the Greek Islands.
To get away from the Turkish authorities they pay a smuggler to get you on a boat.

However, your boat may start sinking halfway through the journey and to make things worse if the Turkish police find you, they will beat you. You eventually get to Greece and once you get there you are stuck, forgotten about, disposed and longing safety.

For my final project I documented the refugee crisis on the Greek island of Samos. I used photography to capture the suffering and the people trying to have a normal life.
